Self-Defense Seminar

 

 

Background:

            Violence in American society has always found the majority of its victims in those members of our society least able to defend themselves. Women, children, the elderly, and the infirmed have all become targets for threats, harassment, intimidation, and physical force. Self-Defense training has become a valuable tool in assuring that each of us can conduct our daily lives safely.

The Program:

            Dress for this seminar is casual; wear clothing you can exercise in. This Self-Defense seminar is 10 weeks in length and provides knowledge and skills in the following areas:

·         Recognizing potentially violent situations

o        Strategy for dealing with violent situations

·         Establishing the verbal boundary

o        how to use your verbal skills to defuse a violent situation

·         How to use your environment against your attacker

o        Cell phones, purses, telephones, canes, parking lots, parking garages, etc.

·         Defensive skills

o        How do you prevent yourself from being physically injured

o        How do you deal with differences in size and weight      

·         Offensive skills

o        If you have to strike: when and how do you do this

·         Physical fitness

o        Introduction to some exercises that work for everyone

·         What to do about weapons

·         What should you carry

When:

            The next Self-Defense seminar will start on Thursday evening January 18, 2001 7:00pm. Each class will be approximately 1 hour in length

 

Cost:

            The cost is $75 for the 10 week seminar.
